June to December 2014

AS Board Summer Training

  • Worked with Student Activities, Leadership, and Dean of Students to build training schedule for the AS Board Summer Training.
  • Conducted an assessment of AS Board Summer Training using the critical incident questionnaire, survey, and two group interviews.

DART sub group meetings

Catharine Vader, Amelia, Casey, Joanne, Greg, Nate, among others in our DOS Unit met to discuss assessments that may cross over between departments to 1) be aware of what others are doing that may be similar work to our own, and 2) to explore ways to support each other in data gathering, assessment, and opportunities for collaboration. These meetings will occur once per quarter.

Departmental Interviews in DOS Unit

  • Interviews were conducted within the DOS Unit over the summer to determine the following: assessment activities and gaps, professional development and training needs, and human resources. Information was presented to the Dean's Core Team.
NAKAMA 26

  • Assessed the NAKAMA 26 ESS Division Conference using various modes of technology and submitted final report.
  • The NAKAMA assessment methodology and plan was presented to DART in December of 2014.

Extended Education

  • A presentation and assessment of Extended Education conference occurred in November 2014. This was prompted by interest from Extended Education on assessment and the use of technology to assess conferences, like NAKAMA 26.

Ethnic Student Center Conference
  • The IGNITE ESC Conference in October was assessed using largely qualitative data.  The conference program planning was outstanding.  There will be information from this assessment in the next DOS Unit e-newsletter.
DOS Unit Cultural Competency Assessment
  • To be conducted January 2015
DOS Unit Cultural Competency Speaker: Target Grant

  • Dean of Students, Cultural Competency Committee and various constituents on campus will identify a speaker to bring to the DOS Unit, ESS Division and possibly other sessions for campus as a whole.  More information to follow.
Sharing our stories, successes and DOS Unit highlights

  • Developing a web page [this one] to have a place to share information and highlight successes throughout the unit
Goals

  • More consistency and streamlined process for travel including reflection on what will be gained from attending a conference or professional development event and evaluation as to whether learning outcomes were realized.
  • All DOS Unit job descriptions on one shared drive
  • Needs assessment of what DOS Unit staff want out of DOS Unit Staff meetings
  • Streamline and consistent rating throughout the DOS Unit of employee evaluations [both classified and exempt]
  • New employee website assessment of usefulness and ways to improve the information and site
  • Student employee training and orientation canvas site development [collaborative project]
  • Continue development of DOS Unit Support Staff shared leadership, mentoring, and bringing ideas and feedback forward to the Dean of Students Core Team
